Dr. Erick Guzman, Psychologist, PhD Mental Health & Holistic Wellness Therapist
Dr. Erick Guzman holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Duquesne University and is a licensed psychologist in the state of Maryland. He utilizes an integrative approach to treatment which draws from several styles of "depth-oriented" psychotherapy, including existential, humanistic, gestalt, and relational psychodynamic therapies. His approach is also informed by his education and supervision in C. G. Jung’s analytical psychology, as well as transpersonal psychology. These types of treatment share common beliefs: that each individual's personal experience of the world is unique and valuable, that psychological symptoms hold deeper underlying meanings and are a product of factors we are not always directly aware of, that healing occurs in the context of a supportive and collaborative relationship between therapist and client, and that therapeutic change is a holistic and transformative process that goes beyond symptom reduction, although symptom reduction also occurs.
Dr. Guzman works with individuals across the lifespan suffering from a variety of psychological concerns, including depression, mood disorders such as Bipolar Disorder, anxiety, and personality disorders. He may be a good fit for individuals looking to navigate identity issues, adjustment to life transitions, spiritual concerns, and loss of meaning and purpose, as well as to manage stress, and cultivate more fulfilling relationships. He is also attentive to the impact of sociocultural factors on psychological concerns, including the impact of oppressive power structures on mental health. He specializes in helping individuals navigate issues of culture, and enjoys working with clients from diverse backgrounds and with traditionally marginalized identities (for instance, Black, Hispanic, and LGBTQ+ individuals).
Dr. Guzman is also an adjunct professor in the Psychology department at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. He has a passion for teaching and mentoring students. In his spare time, he enjoys riding his bike, spending time in nature, reading, going to concerts and music festivals, collecting vinyl records, playing guitar, admiring art, and spending time with his family.
