Jasper Mislak, LMSW, BSP, EMDR

Mental Health & Brainspotting Therapist

Jasper earned his master’s in social work at the University of Maryland Baltimore and is licensed in the state of Maryland. He is mainly a somatic/body-based therapist that specializes in trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Jasper also specializes in working with LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent populations as well as the kink and ethical non-monogamous/polyamorous community.

His main modalities are Brainspotting and EMDR, both of which he is level 2 trained in. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. EMDR is a problem-solving process that utilizes bilateral (“back-and-forth”) stimulation to activate the body and mind’s natural ability to heal. EMDR helps in getting rid of patterns, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that no longer serve us, and replaces them with positive beliefs and thinking. It is fast, effective, and evidence-based. Brainspotting is an offshoot of EMDR that utilizes many of the same elements but with more continuous processing. Both approaches allow for a profound level of trauma healing.

He also incorporates elements of narrative therapy, mindfulness, somatic experiencing, and motivational interviewing from a strengths-based, trauma-informed, holistic, and humanistic perspective. Essentially, Jasper believes that revolutionary healing starts from the body and extends outward into our collective community. He recognizes that everyone has an innate ability to mend, people are the experts in their own narrative, and that collaboration is a necessary ingredient for personal, relational, communal, and societal change.
